4 pedestrians killed after covered van hit them in Narsingdi

Four pedestrians were killed after a covered van hit them in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi this morning (June 30, 2022).

The deceased were identified as Bacchu Mia (56), Faruk Mia (55), Mustakim Mia (40), and Ripon Mia reports quoting police.

Bhairab Highway Police Outpost's Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mozammel Hossain, said the accident took place at Mahmudabad Namapara Bazar area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway early today.

"While trying to overtake another van, a covered van driver lost control of the vehicle and ran over three pedestrians. Two of them died on the spot," the OC said,

"After hearing the news, highway police and fire service personnel went to the spot and rushed the two injured to a nearby hospital but the two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital," the OC said.

"The covered van has been seized but the driver managed to flee the scene. Their bodies were sent to Narsingdi District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy," the OC added.
