Dengue cases surpass 1 lakh mark this year

With 141 new dengue cases reported in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, the caseload has surpassed 1 lakh in Bangladesh, marking another milestone for the mosquito-borne disease this year.
Since 1 January, as many as 1,00,029 patients have been hospitalised with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). In 2023, there were 3,21,179 cases.
Besides, in a 24-hour span, three more deaths were recorded from dengue, raising the number of fatalities in the country to 561 this year.
Of them, one death each occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Barishal and Khulna divisions (outside the city corporations).
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.
