Kidney transplant service resumes at BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital

The much-awaited kidney transplant service resumed at the BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital with a view to providing technology-based modern medical services at a low cost.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Mohammad Shahinul Alam, inaugurated the kidney transplant operation.
The last kidney transplant at the Super Specialized Hospital was completed on July 28, 2024, marking the 31st transplant.
Several distinguished officials from BSMMU, including Pro-Vice Chancellor (administration) Professor Dr. Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (research and development) Professor Dr. Mohammad Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahreen Akhter, newly appointed Director (additional charge) of the Super Specialized Hospital and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Science and Paraclinical Science Professor Dr. Saiful Ullah Munshi, Registrar Professor Dr. Mohammad Nazirul Islam, Proctor Dr. Sheikh Farhad, Chief of the Transplant Program and Urologist Professor Dr. AKM Khurshidul Alam, Renal Transplant Program Coordinator Professor Dr. Touhid Mohammad Saiful Islam Dipu, Additional Director Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Hasan, the Vice-Chancellor's personal secretary Dr. Mohammad Rahul Kuddus Biplo, and Assistant Professor Dr. Abu Hena Helal Uddin Ahmed, were present.
In today's 32nd kidney transplant, the donor was 50-year-old Kohinur Begum from Noakhali district, while the recipient was 48-year-old Sahara Begum from Dhaka district. Kohinur Begum is the aunt of Sahara Begum.
The total cost for kidney transplantation at BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital is Tk 3 lakh.
