Asif Nazrul, adviser for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, said that it is possible for the interim government to carry out essential reforms within a year if they are given the opportunity.
"If there is consensus, the next political government will not easily overturn or revoke those reforms (by the interim government). There is no alternative to reforms for us," Asif Nazrul said at a dialogue on Monday.
Centre for Governance Studies organised dislogue titled "Democratic Reconstitution: On Judiciary" at the CIRDAP auditorium.
Asif Nazrul further said that the chief adviser and the head of the reform commission had verbally agreed to implement reforms on matters of national consensus.
The higher judiciary in Bangladesh had been granted powers that were exploited to maintain Sheikh Hasina's government in power, consolidating its authority, he said.
