Troops working tirelessly to maintain law and order: Army chief

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman said that the army personnel are working tirelessly to maintain law and order in the country during the ongoing crisis.

The army chief made the remark while delivering a speech at a reception for the heroic army freedom fighters, marking Armed Forces Day at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday.

Praising the army for its efforts during the national crisis, he said that army personnel are engaged in various activities aimed at building the country and supporting national development.

He also noted that army members are contributing to global peace through their service in the United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Mentioning difficult times ahead, the chief of army staff sought prayers to lead the country and the nation to a safe and prosperous future. He expressed optimism that with collective effort, the crisis could be overcome.

In his address to the heroic army freedom fighters, the army chief said, “We can never repay your debt. You (freedom fighters) are the best children of the nation. You are our guides. Not only did you bring us victory during the War of Liberation, but your contributions to the army in the post-independence period are invaluable. The army stands strong today because of your contribution."

During the event, the chief of army staff exchanged pleasantries with the awardees and the relatives of the war heroes.

He also recognised the exceptional contributions of 28 soldiers for the year 2023-2024, awarding them military decorations in recognition of their roles during peacetime.

Among the recipients were five soldiers who were awarded the Army Medal, five honoured with the Exceptional Service Medal, and 18 who received the Distinguished Service Medal.

The awardees, their families, senior military officers, soldiers, invited guests, and media representatives attended the event.
