Dengue: 8 more die, 1,108 hospitalised in 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded eight more deaths from dengue in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With the fatalities, the toll rose to 223 since 1 January, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Besides, in a 24-hour span, 1,108 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, taking the caseload to 44,764.
Of the deaths, four were reported from the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and one each from Barishal, Chattogram, and Dhaka divisions, and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
Among the dengue patients, 281 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 174 under the DSCC, and 164 under the DNCC.
On 12 October, the country logged nine deaths from dengue in the last 24 hours, marking the highest number of fatalities from the viral infection in a single day so far this year.
Dengue claimed 1,705 lives in 2023, making it the deadliest year on record. The DGHS also recorded 3,21,179 cases and 3,18,749 recoveries last year.
