Ocean: Both a victim and a hero in climate crisis

The ocean, while being one of the greatest victims of the climate crisis, also holds incredible potential to be a key player in its solution. 

“Greenhouse gases are wreaking havoc on ocean health, causing warming, sea-level rise, and ocean acidification. But amidst these challenges, the ocean holds tremendous potential as a source of climate solutions!,” the US Embassy Dhaka in a post on the social media platform Facebook stated this on Saturday.

The post also read, “Ocean-based climate solutions are key to combating the climate crisis. From scaling up offshore renewable energy to transitioning to zero-emission shipping to protecting vital carbon-storing ecosystems like mangroves and seagrasses, the ocean offers innovative pathways to mitigate climate impacts.” 

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the ocean's economic, security, and environmental benefits by developing and supporting sustainable solutions. Through innovative ocean-based approaches, the world can mitigate climate challenges while protecting this vital resource for future generations.
