Dhaka, Kathmandu to enhance ties on climate issues

Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari paid a courtesy call on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.

They discussed the issues of mutual cooperation, especially environmental protection, climate change actions, and energy cooperation.

Adviser Rizwana underscored the need for making joint efforts in combating the adverse effects of climate change as both Bangladesh and Nepal are highly vulnerable to its impacts.

She expressed Bangladesh’s readiness to work closely with Nepal on various environmental initiatives, including reforestation, water conservation, and eco-friendly development projects.

Ambassador Bhandari emphasised Nepal's commitment to regional collaboration for addressing climate challenges and highlighted the importance of sharing knowledge and best practices between the two countries.

He also invited the environment adviser to visit Nepal.

Both parties acknowledged the potential for enhanced bilateral relations through environmental diplomacy and agreed to explore future collaborative projects aimed at promoting sustainable development and resilience in the region.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthen ties between Bangladesh and Nepal in addressing shared environmental challenges.
