The number of online income tax return submissions in Bangladesh has surpassed six lakh, thanks to the voluntary participation of taxpayers.
Additionally, over 13 lakh registrations for online return submissions have been recorded so far, according to a statement issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Sunday.
The statement highlighted that taxpayers are not required to submit or upload any documents when filing income tax returns online.
“Feedback from respected taxpayers has been incorporated to make the online return filing process simpler and more streamlined. As a result, the platform has gained wide acceptance among taxpayers,” the statement added.
Earlier, the NBR extended the deadline for tax return submission by one month, allowing taxpayers until 31 December to file their returns. The submission period began on 9 September this year. The NBR introduced online tax return filing in 2021.
Meanwhile, 869 tax circle offices across 41 income tax zones are actively assisting taxpayers with their return submissions until 31 December. These offices offer services such as online TIN registration, return filing, and e-payments through automated challans.
This year, the NBR is prioritising online tax return submissions, which officials note are now easier compared to previous methods. After filing taxes online, taxpayers can conveniently download acknowledgement slips, tax certificates, TIN certificates, and copies of their submitted returns.
According to the NBR, government employees in Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj City Corporations, as well as all officials and employees of scheduled banks, telecom companies, and certain large organisations, are required to submit their tax returns online.
Currently, there are 1.05 crore TIN holders across the country.
