The interim government’s power and energy adviser on Wednesday asked for $1 billion in budgetary support from the World Bank (WB), while holding a meeting with the multilateral lender’s country director.

The interim government inherits a number of pressing mandates, including $2.2 billion in outstanding payment for power and energy imports, energy adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan told WB Country Director Abdoulaye Seck.

Seck met the energy adviser at the latter’s office in the capital, accompanied by three other WB officials, according to a press release.
