Railways minister seeks Japan’s assistance in Matarbari project

Railways Minister Md Zillul Hakim sought financial and technical support from Japan when Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori paid a courtesy call on him at Railway Bhaban on Monday.
The railways minister said the country’s economy will be revolutionised when the ongoing development activities centering Matarbari are completed. That is why the government is emphasising on the development of the communication system. If Matarbari port is connected to the rail network, containers can be transported directly from the deep sea port to different places quickly by trains.
The railway minister also thanked the Japanese ambassador for speeding up construction of the Bangabandhu railway bridge and discussed various ongoing railways projects.
He further said Japan is providing financial and technical support to various development projects of Bangladesh, many of which are implemented by Bangladesh Railway, and there is an opportunity for the development partner to work on other railway projects in the country in the future too.
The Japanese ambassador assured the minister of working with Bangladesh Railway and providing financial support in the future.
Japan has good relations with Bangladesh, and the relations between the two countries will be further developed in the future through mutual cooperation in various sectors, he added.
