Badiul Alam Majumdar, the head of the Election System Reform Commission, on Sunday said it is the Election Commission (EC) that will make a decision on the contestants in the national election.
“The EC will decide who can contest the election as well as who are eligible and ineligible in this regard. Our job is only to propose reforms in the electoral system,” he told reporters while replying to a question about the participation of all parties in the next general election.
Before talking to the media, Badiul attended a views-exchange meeting held at the conference room of the Chattogram deputy commissioner’s office in the port city.
At the event, people of various classes and professions expressed their opinions. Tofail Ahmed and Jesmin Tuli, two other members of the reform commission, were also present.
Mentioning that everyone wants a fair election, Badiul said, “We have realised that people are enthusiastic now… All of them want a fair and impartial election through which our democratic system will stand on a solid foundation. It’s the desire of the people and us. We are working on the issue.”
