Bangladesh pace bowler Taskin Ahmed has hinted that he is ready to take up T20I captaincy.

Najmul Hossain decided to quit captaincy after the home series against South Africa but later changed his mind after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed managed to convince him to continue as the captain.

Though the board named Najmul as the captain of the side for the UAE tour, the issue of captaincy is still making the rounds with Towhid Hridoy and Taskin being considered as possible replacements for captain Najmul in shorter-version cricket.

“It [T20I captaincy] is entirely dependent on the board. But if the board wants [me to lead in T20Is] in that case why not?” Taskin told reporters at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.

Meanwhile, batter Hridoy insisted that he is not losing his sleep over the T20I captaincy.

The announcement came hours after Hridoy said that he feels the captaincy should go to the player who can be the best fit for the betterment of the side.

“The BCB will give their decision [regarding T20 captaincy],” he told reporters in Mirpur before heading for the airport on Saturday.

“It's not in my hands. It's not something which I or one or two others can do [decide]. Those in charge of the BCB will know it best. What I feel is that whoever is good for the team, should get the captaincy. My best wishes for the player who gets it,” he said.

“I don't want to speak about this matter at the moment. Since we have matches ahead, want to focus on that,” Hridoy replied when asked if he is prepared for the captaincy role.

One-half of the Bangladesh team is set to depart for the UAE to play the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan starting on 6 November.
