Task force formed for banking sector reforms

The Bangladesh Bank has formed a task force – which consists of six members – to introduce banking sector reforms.

According to the central bank, the members of the task force include Lutfey Siddiqi, chief adviser's special envoy for international affairs, Muhammad A (Rumee) Ali, former deputy governor of the Bangladesh Bank, Meheriar M Hasan, chairman of BRAC Bank PLC, Zahid Hussain, former chief economist of the World Bank’s Dhaka office, Prof M Zubaidur Rahman, vice-chancellor of ZNRF University of Management Sciences, and Sabbir Ahmed, Partner at Hoda Vasi Chowdhury & Co.

The task force will mainly examine the current financial situation of the banking sector, conduct an assessment of distressed assets and major risks, economic indicators of weak banks, actual credit status, provision shortfall, liquidity situation, net capital, exact value of assets, and separation of bad assets of the troubled banks.
