15-20% votes cast in first four hours of upazila polls: EC Secy

Around 15-20 percent of votes were cast in the first four hours of polling in the first phase of the sixth Upazila Parishad Election in 139 upazilas across the country.
Voters were casting their votes peacefully except for several stray incidents.
According to the EC secretary Md Jahangir Alam, a voting percentage of around 15-20% was recorded till noon. The voting started at 8am and will continue till 4pm.
He said that a lower voter presence was seen in the morning due to rain. However, the scenario in the polling stations started to become normal as the day progressed, he added.
Besides, the EC has been forced to postpone voting in the Laksmipur centre of Khagrachhari following violence between two rivals, he confirmed.
