The pro-Raushan Ershad faction of the Jatiya Party has elected a new central committee, with Raushan Ershad as chairman and Kazi Mamunur Rashid as secretary general of the party.
The announcement came at the party’s 10th National Council at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka on Saturday.
Jatiya Party Co-Chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid presided over the national council.
When the name of Raushan Ershad was proposed as the chairman of the party, the present councillors and delegates raised their hands in support of the proposal. Fakhruzzaman Jahangir, a praesidium member of the party, announced the names of other senior leaders of the party who got new posts.
Kazi Firoz Rashid was elected as the executive chairman, with Abu Hossain as senior co-chairman, Shahidur Rahman Tapa, Shafiqul Islam Sentu, Rahgir Al Mahi, Golam Sarwar Milan, and Sunil Shuvo Roy as co-chairmen. Later, Golam Sarwar Milon announced the name of Kazi Mamunur Rashid as secretary general of the party.
Raushan Ershad said, “Had this council not been held today, the national party would not have survived. We would have lost thousands of leaders and workers, and the people of the country would have turned away from the Jatiya Party. It was reflected in the 12th parliamentary election.”
