Former president and Awami League politician Abdul Hamid has been accused for the first time in a lawsuit over July-August 2024 uprising killings.

The defendant Tahmul Islam, 27, is a BNP activist in Kishoreganj and claims to be officially recognised as an injured in the student-led anti-fascist movement last year.

The case was filed with the Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station on Tuesday. It also accuses ousted premier Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul as the “masterminds” behind the state-backed killings of protesters.

As per the case statement, the accused first plotted and then ordered their subordinates to kill civilian protesters with lethal firearms, crude bombs and local sharp weapons.

On orders from the top accused individuals, a violent attack took place at Station Road, Kishoreganj on 4 August, leaving the plaintiff and the witnesses of the case severely injured.
