Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday called on all individual citizens to contribute more towards social welfare, saying it is more pleasurable to work for others than for oneself.
Everyone has an inherent tendency to assist others through whatever means available, but people need to awaken and blossom this tendency, the Nobel Laureate said while inaugurating a walkathon and a social services conference at Manik Mia Avenue, Dhaka.
People are more powerful than the government, and their joint contributions can yield greater social benefits.
People only need to practice social works on a daily basis to form a habit as it is their duty. The social welfare ministry’s duty is to remind people of their duty to voluntarily serve the nation and the society.
The fundraiser inauguration was also attended by social welfare minister Sharmin S Murshid and three representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which led the movement to oust the Sheikh Hasina dictatorship on 5 August.
