Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said if BNP is voted to power, it will establish an accountability-based government for the people.
"If we go to power, we want to form a government which will remain accountable to the people and then we will be able to resolve all problems of the country in phases," he told a training workshop on “31-point proposals for repairing state structure and public-engagement” on virtual platform.
BNP’s Training Affairs Committee organized the workshop at Fun Town Park Auditorium in Cumilla.
Tarique Rahman said 31-point outline for state reforms is a description of what BNP will do if it comes to power in future.
He urged the party men to reach reforms outline to the people all over the country without keeping it only among the party leaders and workers.
If anyone has any objections or suggestions over the 31 points, it will be evaluated, he said.
BNP acting chairman said they announced the 31-point outline when many people did not want to believe that dictatorial regime would be ousted.
Around two years back, BNP at first gave 27-point outline and later, it has been upgraded to 31 points with including the opinions of other democratic parties, which along with BNP fought movement for establishing democracy and eliminating autocracy, he said.
Tarique Rahman urged the party men to refrain from controversial activity and work for achieving people’s trust and confidence.
Mentioning that the ousted dictator has destroyed the country, Tarique Rahman urged the party men to work for the country and its people as people are looking at BNP.
He said if BNP goes to power, various infrastructures of the country will be named after the martyrs of the July-August revolution.
Noting the contribution of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s family to the country and the people, Tarique Rahman said his father Ziaur Rahman had to embrace martyrdom at the hands of conspirators while working for the welfare of the country and the nation.
“You have seen how my mother Begum Khaleda Zia was tortured for taking stance for the countrymen. My brother Arafat Rahman embraced martyrdom at the repression of the conspirators. The stories of the families of many BNP leaders and activists in Bangladesh are similar to my family,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said the fugitive dictator has destroyed the country’s education system in the last 15 years and the country has been plunged into corruption as massive amount of money was looted and smuggled abroad.
The fascist AL regime made their efforts to instill corruption in every nook and cranny of the society, he mentioned.
He underscored the need for making the children aware about the menace of corruption from the primary school level in order to save the country from corruption.
Tarique Rahman also stressed on creating skilled human resources through modernization of education system.
Students should be made proficient in English along with other subjects as well as they should be encouraged to play sports, he said.
“We want every citizen from primary level to intermediate to develop into a skilled citizen. The citizens of the country should be trained and developed in such a way that they do not get stuck anywhere in the country or abroad and they can establish themselves as skilled manpower all over the world,” he said.
During the training workshop, Tarique Rahman replied to questions of the participants-leaders and workers of the party’s organizational division of Cumilla.
In response to a question, BNP acting chairman underlined the need for improving country's public transport system, saying coordinated efforts should be taken to deal with traffic congestion, a major problem of the country especially in the capital Dhaka and Chattogram.
BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the workshop.
He called upon the interim government to hold the next general election quickly saying if a fair election is held BNP will definitely go to power by winning the poll.
He said some men of the fugitive government have taken shelter in India and they will try to create unrest in the country.
“The people of the country stay ready to tackle these conspiracies,” he said.
Khandaker Mosharraf said BNP leaders and workers were subjected to various kinds of torture and oppression for the past 16 years.
He said their movement will continue until BNP comes to power.
BNP's Organizing Secretary Selim Bhuiyan (Cumilla organizational division) chaired the event, which was conducted by BNP’s Training Affairs Secretary ABM Mosharraf Hossain.
Top leaders of BNP from Cumilla, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur districts participated in this Cumilla divisional workshop.
