Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has categorically said that the country’s 15 years of corruption and irregularities cannot be eliminated in only three or four months.

However, stability has started to return to the economy which was beginning to deteriorate, he said while addressing a programme at a hotel oganised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in Dhaka on Saturday.

The reserve of foreign currencies is increasing significantly while the development partners are responding positively, said the finance adviser.

“I attended the meeting of the IMF and the World Bank last month and they have responded positively. I hope we will get the support of $100 crore in the private sector,” he said during the programme.

Salehuddin, also former governor of Bangladesh Bank, said, “We want to leave behind a footprint so that the next government can follow it in preventing money laundering.”

He said the interim government is focusing on the private sector to boost the country’s overall economy and ensuring that the flow of loans to the sector does not decline.
