Govt approves draft of ICT Ordinance to penalise political parties

The government has, in principle, approved the draft of the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) Ordinance 2024, paving the way for taking action against the country’s political parties for their indulgence in acts against humanity.

The approval was given during a meeting of the advisory council held at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday with Prof Muhammad Yunus, chief of the interim government in the chair.

If the ordinance is promulgated, the tribunal will be able to recommend trial of political parties for their involvement in crimes against humanity, according to the draft of the ordinance.
