The government has relaxed the ongoing nationwide curfew from 7am to 8pm for the next four days (Wednesday to Saturday) in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi and Gazipur.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal came up with the announcement on Tuesday.
The process of banning Jamaat-Shibir politics from the country is currently underway, said the home minister after emerging from a meeting held with top brass of the government at his ministry office in Dhaka this afternoon
Some ministers, state ministers and heads of the law enforcement agencies held the emergency meeting over contemporary issues.
The meeting will also discussed other issues, such as the quota reform movement and its aftermath, the withdrawal of the curfew, and the overall law and order situation.
The country's overall situation is gradually returning to normal, which has led to the relaxation of the ongoing curfew in four districts, said the home minister.
In the remaining districts, the curfew relaxation time will be determined by the respective deputy commissioners, he added.
Regarding the reopening of educational institutions and the full restoration of internet services, the home minister said that “the Education Minister and State Minister for ICT will provide further details.
When asked about mass arrests, he said, “No mass arrests were made, and no innocent person was detained. Arrests were made after proper verification.”
Following violence across the country over the quota reform movement, the government imposed the curfew on last Friday midnight.
The curfew has been relaxed several times in Dhaka and other parts of the country since then.
