PSC question leak: Former chairman's driver Abed Ali, 16 others detained

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has detained seventeen people, including Syed Abed Ali and his son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam over allegations of leaking questions for the examinations held under the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).

Fifteen others were also detained during raids conducted by CID at different places in the country over the last two days, according to sources of CID. 

The other arrestees are- PSC's Deputy Directors Abu Zafar, Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director Alamgir Kabir, Dispatch Rider Khalilur Rahman, Office Assistant Sajedul Islam, Auditor Priyanath Roy, Noman Siddiqui, Abu Solaiman Md Sohel, Zahidul Islam, Mamunur Rashid, Sakhawat Hossain, Sayem Hossain, Liton Sarkar, Narayanganj Regional Passport Office Security Officer Shahadat Hossain and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital Medical Technician Niamun Hasan.

A private television channel aired an investigation report on Sunday evening which uncovered the the scandal involving leaked question papers for 30 recruitment exams, including the BCS.

According to the report, a syndicate of six officials and employees of the PSC had been involved in leaking exam questions for a long time.

Syed Abed Ali was a driver of the PSC chairman.

His son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam is the Relief and Disaster Management Secretary of the Chhatra League's Dhaka North unit.

Despite being a driver, Abed Ali, a resident of Dasar Upazila in Madaripur district, has amassed properties worth millions, according to the report.

The report has sparked a wave of criticism on social media and the name of Abed Ali has become the talk of the town.

Information about multiple houses, cow farms, and assets in Dhaka and villages has been found on his social media Facebook page.

Abed Ali campaigned for the post of Chairman in the last Upazila Parishad elections.

He used to meet regularly with the prominent and influential people of the society. He had relations with the officials of the administration.
